...Yesterday, as I watched a beautiful rainy day at the market begin to wrap itself up in lowering lights and a soaking mist, I was also trying to decide what to buy from "my own" market and make for dinner last night. Suddenly through the misty grey I saw a woman carrying an armload of spaghetti squash and wondered what she was planning to do with so many of them... and then I saw RED: lush, sweet, delicious-looking, big, succulent, truly ripe, red bell peppers and knew exactly what I wanted to make. Rain is taking its toll
The following vendors will not be present today:
- A Wise Gardener
- Bernie's Baked Goods
- Byrd Cellars Winery
- Goatacado
- Mimi's Whole Wheat
- Nana's Homemades
- Triple Stamp Press
- Tropical Safari
But all our CSA farmers will be here - so don't miss out!
At the Market this week
- It's First Tuesday Wine Down but Byrd Cellars Winery is out this time (update 12:30 today.
- Parking: Last week we learned what parking is really like on market day when VCU classes are back in session. Unfortunately so did our Oregon Hill neighbors. One private resident allows our shoppers to park on the back unfenced area of his property adjacent to the alley and Hollywood Cemetery off Idlewood, but has notified me that people are leaving trash and blocking the alley. Please respect this resident's generosity and please try to park on Idlewood and/or Linden streets. Please note that as of last week, shoppers may now add the soccer field to their parking options, entering from Linden St. - new signs will be posted.
- Weather.com calls for rain today, so bring your umbrella - some vendors may be in the Gym across the way and you can admire the new mural in progress on the side of the building on your way in or out.
- Cooking Classes:
- Cooking as a 2nd Language features Persian Cuisine: Sat, September 17 (9:30am-12noon) - register now online at Eat Good Grow Great blogspot
- Vegan 101 with Jen Hurst: Wed, September 21 (6-8pm) - classes held every other Wed, registration form will added to Eat Good Grow Great this week.
- Visit the BHM Info Tent and Ask me about our Genealogy research resources, or Market stuff
- And remember we proudly accept SNAP, Credit and Debit Cards for your fresh, delicious food shopping convenience.
Keeping our eyes on Lee and Katia
Rain likely on market day this week, so we will be prepared for those who might want to set up in the Gym across the street.
We will also be accommodating more parking on the field (when its not too soft from the rains) just beyond the playground area on market days for the remainder of the season because of the return of VCU students and some concern expressed by Oregon Hill residents. Please spread the word. I've also decided not to put any fill-in vendors in the spot where Snider Bros. bus used to be because we need those parking spots.
stay tuned - it's first Tuesdays, so Wine & Good times!
