First Tuesdays at Byrd House Market are Yummy.

While fresh and in season: First Tuesdays at BHM feature Byrd Cellars Winery
and more...

One of my favorite parts of the market this season is our market musician, Thea. She serenades passersby and mulberry pickers as she works through her 2 hour repertoire (mostly from her head!!) and will occasionally break from her normal regimen to play classical composer requests - I got Mozart last week. From the protective shade of our mulberry tree, she plays her way to a big Soul-Ice treat. Not a shabby way to spend a school-day afternoon...

This week we welcome Mimi's Whole Wheat - a new vendor brining much needed addition to our bread offerings from beloved Sub Rosa (CSA) Breads. We also send fond regards to City Garden who is sitting out the season to take care of the home front. See you in the Renegade Days Laura and John!

Speaking of he: Evrim Dogu celebrated Sub Rosa Breads 2 years in business with a Soiree Sur l'Herbe (picnic on the grass) on Sunday evening in the Grace Arents Community Garden - it was dandy-licious, dangerous-looking and de-groovy. Shoulda been there. Next Year!

June 18 Cooking as a 2nd Language presents Arabic Cuisine with Dentist/Chef Raidah Hudson = 3 traditional dishes from a Palestinian menu in one morning for just $10 per participant. You make, you learn, you eat and go home knowing MORE! Register at EatGoodGrowGreat.blogspot.com.

BHM is anxiously awaiting the moment when we can begin offering our shoppers the ability to use their EBT and Credit or Debit cards... YOU will be the first to know once we know. Let the wooden nickles fly!!!

We've added some new links to the blog's sidebar, to sites we find useful and fun. Some of our William Byrd kids are preparing for a trip to the White House and others are working on gardening, harvesting, photography, not to mention anticipating SUMMER VACATION! Richmond Public Library will be joining us monthly (starting last week), with storyteller, books, programs and our favorite Librarian, Patty Parks. WBCH has partnered with RPL and the Black History Museum and Cultural Center to provide introductory and continuing resources to those doing Family Research (aka genealogy). WBCH walk-in hours are Thursdays 10am-2pm (except this week) and the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:30am-12:30 am. I've been working on mine so I can help you with yours.

What's on Your Plate?

An interesting movie that will help you to understand what you eat and how it affects you. The movie is a documentary about two girls who are trying to understand what they eat and where it comes from. You will follow them along their mission and learn what they learn and how you can help yourself.
